PRISONERS OF FATE
A film by Mehdi Sahebi
Feature documentary, 100'
PRISONERS OF FATE follows refugees from Afghanistan and Iran in their daily lives in Switzerland. After the hardships of fleeing their home countries, the protagonists face the challenge of adapting to their new environment. Mahmad, a deserter, Sanam, separated from her young son, Ezat, worrying about his mother left behind, and the adolescent Omid, struggling with overwhelming homesickness, all feel powerless in the face of their destiny. Their everyday lives continue to be shaped by their traumatic experiences, but friendship, solidarity, and humor help them to never entirely lose hope.

Ten years have passed since the nuclear disaster and almost no one in Japan talks about Fukushima anymore. The Summer Olympics are to be held in Tokyo, and the country wants to show itself from its best side. But radiation levels remain elevated in many places, questions surrounding the dismantling of the ruined reactors remain unresolved, and many evacuees cannot return to their homes.
In SILENT FUKUSHIMA Swiss-Japanese filmmaker Aya Domenig portrays five artists who criticize the government's policy of downplaying the nuclear disaster and keep fighting against oblivion. The film raises questions about the relationship between citizen and state, art and politics and responsibility towards future generations.
